‘No-mind’ is a Zen expression meaning the mind without mind and is also referred to as the state of ‘no-mindness’. That is, a mind not fixed or occupied by thought or emotion and thus open to everything.
In the No-Mind collection I gave myself no direction and left my self open. I meditated before beginning and improvised. This is a true reflection of my interior at the time after four years of effort. I self psychoanalyzed and spread my insides in front of my viewer. Unconsciously themes of destruction vs. creation and the relation of the part to the whole crept into my work.
